HB History
1970s: Pioneering Beginnings
In 1976, visionary Tom Morris launched the first 'Home & Bargain' store in Old Swan, Liverpool, igniting a revolution in discount retailing and setting the stage for our remarkable journey.
1980s: Empowering Our Team
By 1981, our commitment to excellence extended to our colleagues, as they proudly donned their first official uniforms.
1990s: Evolution to Home Bargains
In 1995, a pivotal moment arrived as we embraced our new identity as Home Bargains, reflecting our dedication to offering unparalleled value and customer satisfaction.
2000s: Infrastructure Expansion
The year 2008 marked a milestone with the opening of our Axis Distribution Centre and Training Facility in Liverpool, a display of our dedication to innovation, and colleague development.
2010s: Diversification and Innovation
In 2013, we ventured into new territory with the opening of our first Garden Centre, broadening our offering and enhancing the shopping experience for our valued customers.
2020s: Unprecedented Growth

I joined HB in April 2022 as a Team Leader with 8 years’ experience in Retail. I decided to join the company because of the many opportunities to progress. Whilst working in store I would see new and exciting ranges launch and I knew that I wanted to be a part of it. When the Buyer Development Programme and apprenticeship came up it was the perfect opportunity and I just had to apply. I am now working as part of the FMCG team in Buying working on chilled, fresh and frozen. I have loved my journey so far and I look forward to coming to work as every day is different. I have become more confident through networking with other people in the business and suppliers. I have learned so much in such a small amount of time!

I feel like working for HB is part of who I am. Even my dentist calls me ‘Home Bargains Richie’. I’m proud to be part of one of the biggest employers in Merseyside. I’ve been a HGV driver here since 2014 and can’t imagine doing anything else, but as a growing company with exciting opportunities ahead, you never know! I receive regular driver training delivered by our inhouse Driver Trainers, and am proud to be a company ambassador. HB has also impacted me personally too as I met my fiancé here!

I have worked for Home Bargains since 2010, where I started my career in the Peasley Cross store, then moving to the Poole store where I worked as a Store Team Member whilst attending university. When I was given the opportunity to support the Payroll team at Head Office I instantly loved it! I found the fast pace, variety of tasks and challenges really engaging. The best part by far is working with such a great team! Since joining Payroll I have developed my knowledge by completing the Chartered Institute for Payroll qualification (CIPP), which provided me with the knowledge, skills and confidence to progress onto more senior roles, before being promoted to Payroll Manager earlier this year. I feel very fortunate to be able work as part of such a hardworking, dedicated and supporting team!
